What are the three major categories of refractory gold ores?
Oct 08, 2024The first type: high arsenic, carbon, and sulfur type gold ore. This type contains more than 3% arsenic, 1-2% carbon, and 5-6% sulfur. Using conventional cyanide gold extraction technology, the gold leaching rate is generally 20-50% and requires a large amount of Na2CN. Although a higher gold concentrate grade can be obtained when enriched by flotation technology, the content of harmful elements such as arsenic, carbon, and antimony in the gold ore is high, which affects the next step of gold extraction technology.
The second type: gold-containing ore in which gold is encapsulated in gangue minerals and harmful impurities in fine particles and microscopic forms. This type of metal sulfide content is small, about 1-2%. The fine gold embedded in the gangue mineral crystals accounts for 20-30%. The gold recovery rate is very low when conventional cyanide gold extraction or flotation is used for enrichment.
The third type: gold ore with a close relationship between gold, arsenic, and sulfur. Its characteristics are that arsenic and sulfur are the main carrier minerals of gold, and the arsenic content is medium. This type of ore has a low leaching index using a single cyanide gold extraction process. If the flotation method is used for enrichment, gold can also obtain a higher recovery rate index, but it is difficult to sell due to the high arsenic content.
To treat these difficult-to-treat gold ores, pretreatment methods such as roasting, pressure oxidation, chemical oxidation, etc. are usually required to improve the recovery rate of gold. Although these methods can improve the leaching efficiency of gold, they may be accompanied by problems such as large investment and environmental pollution.
